About ZIPS

The Zimbabwe Institute of Procurement and Supply is a newly registered professional body registered with the Ministry of Justice Legal and Parliamentary affairs on the 15th of January 2017. The institute has been formed in line with international best practices emanating from the world largest Procurement body the Chartered Institute of Procurement and Supply (CIPS).

The main reason of forming this body is to make ZIPS an internal vehicle focused to drive and achieve internal Procurement challenges in Zimbabwe in line with the international standards of the CIPS body on matters such as;

1. Promoting the strategic procurement function within Zimbabwe; i.e. to

  • provide guidance in terms of training and to promote procurement best practices
  • exercise disciplinary control over procurement and supply management profession in Zimbabwe
  • provide forums and networking activities

2. To participate in any relevant commissions or cross-service initiatives arising as a result of contact with government entities or as requested by private sector companies.

3. Advising both the public and private sector organisations on all procurement matters as appropriate.

4. Promoting cooperation among procurement professionals

5. Representing the interests and views of procurement professionals, be at strategic or operational level.

To make the Procurement and Supply Management Profession in Zimbabwe a vehicle and tool for economic prosperity through prudent procurement and supply

What this means is that professionals should practice, integrity, accountability and ensure value for money in the process of procurement, so that the savings realized would result in savings which can go a long way in meeting other national needs.

To realize a reliable, dependable and corrupt free Procurement and Supply Management cadre

Procurement and Supply professionals must not only strive to be reliable, dependable and corrupt free, but must strive to earn this reputation by ensuring that they abide by the code of Ethics, improve competences and skills in tandem with the changes and challenges that may arise within their profession..

Objectives

The Institute’s main objectives are to regulate and develop the interest of the procurement profession in all sectors in Zimbabwe. In addition, the Institute is responsible for accrediting local training programs, scrutinizing and approving international certification for use by different stake holders in the country. The Institute is also responsible for developing benchmarks within the procurement field in Zimbabwe against which performance by various individuals is measured

The Institute’s objectives are:

  • Conduct the training of persons in Procurement and Supply Management
  • Raise the Standard of Procurement and Supply Management as a means of increasing productivity and efficiency and promote cost reductions 
  • Conduct research related to Procurement and Supply Management and Supply resource management in Zimbabwe
  • Publish a journal of the Institute, and collect, collate and publish other information of service and interest to the Institute
  • Promote, uphold and improve the standards of training and professional ability of persons engaged in Procurement and Supply Management
  • Affiliate firms engaged in Procurement and Supply Management
  • Collaborate with colleges, universities, Professional Institutions, government departments, commercial Institutions, similar international Institutions so as to improve the quality of Procurement and Supply Management in Zimbabwe
  • Undertake and execute trusts which are conducive to the objects of the Institute; and Do all such other acts and things that are incidental to the foregoing or conducive to the attainment of the objectives of the Institute.
